OUR IDEA AND THE TREATMENT

After the group formation day, we have decided to have a call the next day to discuss our ideas and find out how we could merge them. At first, we explained each of the ideas one more time in as much detail as possible. My idea (more information about it can be found on my personal blog) was quite experimental and not so long so it could be integrated into the main piece as a dream of the character. We then decided to play around with the story about Joe. As Bethany and Carmen have already had many details they wanted to change about the story as well had an idea of a certain style of the film we've decided to tell a story about a young filmmaker struggling in the industry and turn Joe into a young creator. We would show her journey of creating and working on her films, struggling from her inner insecurities both in her career and her love life. Then she would see this vivid dream that would show the relationship between her and the film industry. We liked this way of changing and merging ideas as it was important for us that all of the crew members could relate to the story in their way so it could become an honest collaborative piece that reflects multiple issues in the creative industries for women. We also liked how this story goes beyond some stereotypical canons showing an active female protagonist who is not a muse but a creator herself.

The next step for us was to start working on our treatment that would explain every detail of our future short film starting from the story and going further into the discussion of style, colour palette, outfits, characters, etc. All of us worked on the first few slides collaboratively writing the logline, the concept, synopsis, and so on. Then we decided to split the work for a more effective workflow. I was mostly working on the direction of photography and camera, post-production, and the concepts of installation. Even though I post the treatment as one of the first posts, it is reasonable to mention that we’ve been working on it quite a long while changing and discussing the details together so it was finished only after the script.
