As covered in my first weeks' blogs, model box making is not something I am fully competent at. As we did not require a model box for our shoot and relied solely on concept sketches, I decided to leave this task until the end of the shoot dates. After having a meeting with Jane to go over the production bible requirements, I set out to attempt a physical model box once again. The measurement conversion has been, oddly enough, a challenge as 1:50 & 1:25 scale conversions turned out to be too small despite measuring using a tape measure on the day of visiting the set. I additionally found myself simplifying certain elements of the apartment box model such as overly complicated pillars as I already knew they were not seen on screen at any point throughout the film.

Failed Model Box Attempt

As seen in the images, I have attempted to stick down the walls using tacks on a foam board but I had little success due to the size of the tacks. Due to health complications near the previous deadlines, I, unfortunately, was unable to complete the physical model box to the extent I would have wanted to. To make up for the incomplete model box, however, I ended up drawing the model box within Procreate and going to the extent of adding more props to better portray the character of a struggling artist and filmmaker. Although I was not able to stick to the measurements in the drawing software, I used the photographs of the model box itself as a reference to keep the shape of the set faithful to its original state. Below is a copy of the model box drawing along with the cleaner floorplan.

Revised Floorplan & Furniture Placement

Additionally, I attempted to recreate the front door set Joe meets Joanna in as we did not have the opportunity to fully dress outdoor sets due to weather and time constraints. The model below shows lighting we would have used if we were not behind the filming schedule.
