Learning the design process

During the first few weeks of the production design pathway, we learned about the role involves in relation to the practice as a production designer.

WEEK 2

Script mark-up and script breakdown

Using a short script about a character named Joe, we began our practical process by marking up the script according to the color codes required and then production creating a script breakdown.

WEEK 3

Research/Moodboards/Photograph

We then created mood boards relevant to the script in terms of character and place setting of the film. I was mostly drawn by the interiors and character concepts in the film HER - (2013) romance/sci-fi

WEEK 4

Concept and Technical drawing for the key settings

During this session, we formed groups to create a scaled floor plan for the J studio. Each group was given a different scale to follow - in our case, it was a 1:100. Seeing how each group's scaled floor plan turned out, helped us visualize which size would be the best when creating a 3D model.

We were then given the task to study a room of our choice and create a scaled floor plan and elevation of 1:50 which we will then have to create a 3D model out of.

On the left side of the image above was my initial sketch of the plan with its original measurements. I realised that the 1:50 scale was too small to create a model box out of which is why I proceeded to create another sketch in a 1:25 scale for both the floor plan and elevation.

Using these sketches, I began the construct the model box
