Production Day

During the production days, my main focus was on the set dressing and the props. Below you can see some of the behind the scene shots of how we dressed each scene. Coming from an illustration and graphic design background, I lacked knowledge in the filming procedures and skills, so being surrounded by my team and being able to learn from them has created this whole module very insightful.

Reflecting on our group work I can say that our group did a very good job at managing our time and making sure to try to fit everyone into the schedule and communicate the ideas and the things that each person needs to do well. There was great communication and understanding of the tasks. In my opinion, our group was very successful with the final film. We had different ideas at the beginning before we formed our group but we managed to push ourselves in merging everybody’s ideas.

During the first day of production, we managed to get all the scenes that were on the list but the day went on a lot longer than we scheduled as setting up the light and dressing the scene took longer than expected. On our second day of production, the weather was not on our side during the filming which made us have a delay in our schedule as well. With this delay, our outside scenes had to be done in the evening which caused us to experiment with the lighting. Due to the covid situation, I was not able to contribute on the final day of production which had led to the team improvising on the day. Although it was not what we initially planned, in my opinion, my team did an amazing job in being able to come up with something last minute.

I am very satisfied with how our final project looks like. It was a great learning experience and it taught me some very important things about working in a team. Not only to be able to communicate effectively with one another but also to be able to learn from each other. As a second-year student studying Illustration and Visual Communication, it was very exciting to have put in the production design pathway as it is something I had always had an interest in and was keen on expanding my knowledge on. I haven’t really had that much experience when it comes to set designs and I’m really happy to have been able to work with the girls to produce this short film.
